2026 Scholarship Winners​

Cecilia Moy Yep Scholar: Jasmine Wu

Jasmine is an honor student and AP Scholar with Distinction at St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls. As Captain of both her school's FRC Robotics team and Mathletes, she leads with purpose, most notably integrating Breast Cancer Awareness into robotics competitions by designing brochures and distributing pins alongside her team. She is Editor-in-Chief of her school magazine, a selected School Ambassador, and a member of the National Honor Society, where she tutors peers in math and science. Her Catholic faith is the foundation of her service. She teaches Sunday school to 15+ K-1st graders at Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church and volunteers at St. Francis Inn in Kensington, serving meals to guests experiencing homelessness. Academically, she has conducted research through MIT's Rail Innovation in Action program and completed the AccessEngineering program and the Provost's Summer Mentorship Program at the University of Pennsylvania. This fall, she will study Electrical Engineering at New York University, with a minor in Technology, Management, and Design.

Pearl Lee and David Gitter Family Scholar: Winni Zheng

Winni attends Julia R. Masterman School and maintains high honors in mostly Advanced Placement classes. She also takes some courses under the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
She is a member of the Masterman Orchestra and All City Orchestra as second violin and has performed with Opera Philadelphia. Winni also teaches piano.
Winni’s commitment to community service includes volunteering with the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation as lead volunteer tutoring in their Out of School Program, YeShi Night Market, and many other programs where she exhibited strong leadership and time management skills. She has also participated in the Wharton School Global Youth Program.
Winni will be attending the University of Pennsylvania majoring in business management, allowing her to combine her passion for math and networking, utilizing her interdisciplinary knowledge to work with companies and solve real-world issues. Her hobbies include playing badminton, swimming, and traveling.

Powell Family Foundation Scholar: Ruiying Zheng

Ruiying is a first-generation immigrant who came to the United States at the age of seven with her mother and younger brother. She attends Julia R. Masterman High School, where she has pursued a rigorous academic curriculum and a variety of extracurricular activities, from competing as a cross-country runner to serving as the treasurer of the Feminist Club and mentoring students participating in National History Day. Throughout high school, she has accumulated almost 300 hours of service as well as won various College Board and school subject awards. Since the end of her sophomore year, Ruiying has been interning in laboratories across Philadelphia, where she has developed a keen interest in cancer biology and translational medicine. Her clinical experiences have also furthered her commitment to bridge the gap between the bench and the bedside. Most notably, however, she would like to acknowledge the lasting impacts her guinea pigs—Coco, Coconut, and Chestnut—whom she has cared for since elementary school, have had on her.
This fall, Ruiying will attend the University of Pennsylvania as a Vagelos Molecular Life Sciences Scholar majoring in biology and biochemistry, in addition to potentially pursuing a master’s degree in chemistry later in her undergraduate studies.

PASSi Scholar - In Memory of Imja Choi: Heart Hom Kaw

Heart is a first-generation student at Haverford High School, where she excels in many AP classes and demonstrates strong leadership skills through her involvement in several extracurricular activities. At school, she serves as President of the Asian Student Association, Marketing Director for the Yearbook club, a student representative for the Haverford Township School District Education Foundation, and an active volunteer for Main Line Health, National Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society. Outside of school, she works at an internship at Lubrano Pain & Spine Center, where she takes care of 50+ patients by providing various care techniques. This fall, she will be attending Saint Joseph's University, where she will be studying nursing as a member of the prestigious McConnell Scholarship Program.
