Dung Nguyen

Cecilia Moy Yep Scholar: Dung Nguyen

Our 2009 Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship Award Recipient, Dung Nguyen, truly epitomizes the
attributes of academic excellence, leadership and a deep sense of community service. Ranked
third in her graduating class of West Catholic High School, Dung was National Honor Society
President, held various leadership positions and continues to volunteer as a tutor at her
elementary school - St. Francis de Sales in West Philadelphia. No stranger to achievement and
recognition, she attended West Catholic on a full, four year Connelly Foundation Scholarship.
Dung will be furthering her studies at Temple University.

Tanzin Fatima

PECO Scholar: Tanzin Fatima

Finishing Number 1 in her class and selected as valedictorian of University City High School
would be considered quite an accomplishment. What makes this achievement more remarkable
is that Tanzin and her family immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh just two years

ago. It was through her self-determination, motivation and a strong desire to excel that she
overcame language and cultural barriers. Our 2009 PECO Scholar plans to fulfill her dream of
becoming an electrical engineer by attending Drexel University.

Country and school choir to name just a few. A well-rounded student with an SAT score above
2200, this multi-talented young woman is clearly worthy of the Powell Family Foundation
Scholarship. Belinda will be attending Harvard University in the fall.

She feels the experience acquired in her various leadership roles and volunteer activities, which included Student Ambassador at Pennsylvania Hospital, have prepared her well for a future career in public service, international affairs or law. Thi will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.
