2015 Scholarship Winners
Cecilia Moy Yep Scholar: Joann WongA graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls, Joann excelled in both her academic and extracurricular activities She was a candidate of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and an honoree of the Bailey Williams Honors Program, Mu Alpha Theta, and Sociedad Honararia Hispanica. In addition, she was recognized by the U.S. Achievement Academy as an All American Scholar for academics, citizenship, and leadership - a recognition by nomination and highly competitive. Joann's extracurricular activities include badminton, Students Run Philly Style, and tutoring elementary & middle & high school students in the National Honors Society. As a first generation college student, she anticipates pursing a business degree at Drexel University.

Peco Scholar: Savana MaiSavana is a graduate of CAPA (The Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts) where she was a theatre major and held many leadership positions including Student Council. Among her achievements are: straight A student for four years and receiving the Union League of Philadelphia's Good Citizenship Award. Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and at daycare centers and local recreation centers has inspired her to pursue a career in elementary education. She plans to continue volunteering and is working on a community garden to benefit her neighborhood. Savana will pursue her dream as an elementary teacher at the University of Virginia.

Powell Family Foundation Scholar: Huidan MeiEmigrating to the U.S. from China and settling in Philadelphia, Huidan faced cultural and language obstacles as a young girl. However, her hard work and perseverance since then found her being accepted at Central High School. Huidan maintained a 4.0+ GPA, taking many Advanced and Honors courses and was a member of the National Honor Society. Her community service speaks to her dedication to making a contribution. She participated in AIDS walks, volunteered at her local library assisting children, elders, and registered voters and took part in Spring Cleanups in Chinatown. She was one of the lead students who met with the Philadelphia Superintendent of Schools to express their concerns about the Keystone Exams. Huidan will be the first in her family to attend college and will major in Business at Temple University.

Alma Belardo Arts Scholar
Kim is a graduating senior with honors from Furness High School on her way to Temple University to study graphic design. During her time at Furness, she earned accolades not only for her artistic endeavors, but also for academic achievements and volunteerism for BuildOn, Gift of Life Organization, and peer tutoring. She is an active member of the National Honor Society and Vice President of the Future Business Leaders of America Chapter. She has participated in community organizations as interpreter and youth organizer as well as in Tyler Art workshops at Temple University Kim's goal is to complete her education at Temple and become a graphic designer.

Scholarship to Honor the Memory of Arthur & Lea Powell
Sydney is a Friends Select graduate where she was an actor, a member of SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) and Diversity Clubs and published Cappies (high school theatre critiques). In 2014, she was one of five students chosen to attend the Student Diversity Leadership Conference. Sydney was selected to become a member of the Teen Arden Council and in the following year was co-leader of the council. She also owns a photography business. During her summers, Sydney volunteered at the Arden Drama School and the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation She hopes to inspire young women of color to pursue the arts and use art to raise awareness of diversity issues. Sydney will be attending Emerson College for film production.
