2023 Scholarship Winners
Cecilia Moy Yep Scholar: Amanda ChenAmanda is a student at Central High School, who excels in both academic and extracurricular activities. She is the vice president of the Science Olympiad, secretary of the Math Club, and vice president of ECSIR. She volunteers at Temple University Hospital, and is an intern with YDI. Recognized for her knowledge and skills, Amanda represented Central HS in various Science Olympiad competitions, and was part of the team of the first Philadelphia high schools to attend a state-level competition, where she placed 9th in Cell Biology. She received multiple awards for her academic achievements, including her induction into the Barnwell National Honor Society in 2021. Amanda is also a Questbridge Match Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, where she will further her education in Biology.

PECO Scholar: Jessica WuJessica was born and raised in Philadelphia. She attends Central High School where she is a member of the Math Club, Science Olympiad, Scrabble Club, SEAS, and has participated in numerous science fairs. Jessica actively supports her community by volunteering at the Sunrise After School Program, Philly Reading Coaches, and a local relief center. During her high school summers, she would participate in programs such as the ASM Materials Camp and Girls Who Code to learn more about materials engineer and computer programming, respectively. As a high school senior on track to graduate, Jessica plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at Drexel University, followed by a graduate degree in biomedical engineering. Her ultimate goal is to build a career in designing advanced medical devices and robotic prosthetics.

David Gitter Memorial Scholar: Britney LuBritney grew up in an immigrant family, who instilled in her a deep appreciation for different cultures and the importance of giving back to the community. At a young age, she has been interested in STEM-related subjects and has taken many courses throughout high school to further her knowledge in this area. As treasurer of the Science Olympiad at Central High School, Britney has been able to cultivate her passion for STEM and allowed her to help others. She has also volunteered in many community activities such as the Feast of Justice, Philadelphia Marathon, and Mid- Autumn Festival. Her interest in STEM has inspired Britney to pursue a career in computer science, with a focus in developing innovative solutions to help people in need. She will be attending the University of Pittsburgh, and is excited to see what the future holds for her and the impact she can make on the world.

Powell Family Foundation Scholar: Tiffany GaoTiffany attends Bensalem High School, and participates in various activities in school and the community. She is a member of the Robotics Club and the National Honors Society. As a previous member of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, she has conducted scientific research and competed at State level. Tiffany strives to increase female participation in technology, not only in her capacity as programming and data analytics lead at the Robotics Club, but by volunteering as a robotics mentor at a local elementary school. Through a Comcast internship, she participated in the organization and structure of the access network throughout the Philadelphia area with the development of the Aegis/Iris app. She is also an avid piano player, who is preparing to take her practical piano Grade 8 test this summer. She plans to pursue Computer Science at Brown University.
