Honoring Im Ja Choi
Former AAWC Advisory Board member Im Ja Choi was a powerhouse in Philadelphia as well as a staunch advocate for Asian senior citizens. In 2004, she founded Penn Asian Senior Services, now known as PASSi, to serve seniors and aging adults within the Asian community with limited access to culturally and linguistically appropriate long-term aging services. She has been interviewed by Milestones newspaper, and her work has been featured in multiple New York Times articles, on the Money website, as well as in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
In 2013, Ms. Choi was awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which is presented to American citizens who have distinguished themselves within their own ethnic groups while exemplifying the values of the American way of life. She was also a proud member of the Distinguished Daughters of Pennsylvania. Her work has changed the lives of many and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations for years to come. |
