Our Highlights

2013

  • Held annual meeting at the American Red Cross-Southeastern PA Office. Program focused on Emergency Planning & Preparedness. Attendees received First Aid training and Citizen CPR.
  • Hosted a major donor reception with the support of Comcast.
  • Volunteered at PECO Volunteer Day and Comcast Cares Day.
  • Attended the 9th Annual Asian American Women's Breast Health Event sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Foundation - Philadelphia Chapter.
  • Awarded 10 college scholarships at our 26th Annual Banquet.
  • Hosted annual picnic at Holy Redeemer Church.
  • Successfully nominated Lily Yeh, internationally renowned humanitarian and artist, for the 2013 Distinguished Daughters of Pennsylvania Award.
  • Donated funds for typhoon victims in the Philippines through the Philippine Folk Arts Society (PFASI)'s fundraising initiative.
  • Held annual children's holiday party in partnership with Methodist Hospital.  45 children attended from Pennsylvania Migrant Education Program, Bhutan Community, Holy Redeemer Chinese School and Methodist Hospital.
  • Supported the following community events:  *Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation Annual Lunar New Year Celebration, *Holy Redeemer Chinese School Banquet, *Asian American Educators Banquet, *Methodist Hospital Foundation Fashion Show Fundraiser


2012
  • Initiated the new year with AAWC Annual Meeting in collaboration with American Red Cross
  • Kick off AAWC’s 25th Anniversary fund raising campaign goal for 25 scholarships
  • Hosted the VIP Reception for past and future donors and supporters
  • Celebrated AAWC 25th Anniversary Annual Banquet “Continuing Our Legacy” at Ocean Harbor Restaurant with 300 guests
  • EXCEEDED GOAL - Awarded 28 scholarships totaling the amount of $67,500 to twenty eight deserving students:
               Thirteen scholars were awarded $1,000 one-time scholarship
               Seven scholars were awarded $2,500 one-time scholarship
               Six scholars received $5,000 four-year scholarship
               Two scholars were awarded the Alma Belardo Arts Scholarship
  • Held midyear pot-luck at Pearl Lee's house
  • Collaborated with OCA (Organization of Chinese Americans) in supporting Voters ID outreach
  • Enjoyed Restaurant Week dinner at Buddakan Restaurant
  • Honored Cecilia Moy Yep who received the “Women of Vision 2012” award from the Penjerdel Council
  • Held the annual holiday party in partnership with Methodist Hospital for 40 children in the Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Laotian communities

2011
  • Initiated the new year with our AAWC Annual Meeting by collaborating with Drexel University and the Filipino community to bring the Smithsonian exhibition "Singgalott - The Ties That Bind" to Philadelphia. The exhibition was featured at the new Drexel University Intercultural Center on the main campus
  • AAWC Advisory Board continued to provide AAWC Board with their expertise and vision
  • Publication of E-Newsletters semi-annually to improve public relations and communication with members
  • Scholarship Development Committee hosted AAWC scholar gatherings
  • Celebrated the 24th AAWC Annual Banquet at Joy Tsin Lau Restaurant
  • Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship and AAWC Scholarships supported 5 outstanding students with four year scholarships and 4 students with one-time scholarships
  • Participated in "Half the Sky" exhibit at Drexel University featuring renowned women artists from China
  • Fun time at AAWC indoor annual picnic/meeting in October
  • Enjoyed Restaurant Week dinner at R2L
  • Attended "Motherhood" play and lunch at Johnny Rockets
  • Members and guests attended a workshop in the fall on "How to Get the Most from Social Security"
  • Held our annual Holiday Party for Children in partnership with Methodist Hospital in December

2010
  • Kick off the new year with AAWC Annual Meeting at the Comcast Building
  • AAWC Advisory Board continued to provide AAWC Board their expertise and vision
  • Publication of E-Newsletters to improve public relations and communication with members
  • Scholarship Development Committee hosted AAWC scholars gatherings
  • AAWC members supported the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Walk on Mother's Day
  • Celebrated AAWC 23rd Annual Banquet at Joy Tsin Lau Restaurant
  • Welcomed the Chinese Disabled Dance Troupe with Chinese Benevolent Association
  • Cecilia Moy Yep Scholarship and AAWC Scholarships supported 5 outstanding students with four-year scholarship and two students with one-time scholarship 
  • "Singgalott - The Ties That Bind" is a Smithsonian exhibit displayed at Drexel University Intercultural Center from November 2010 to January 2011. This is an AAWC year-long project in collaboration with the Filipino Executive Council of Greater Philadelphia (FECGP) and the Filipino Intercultural Society of Drexel University (FISDU)
